Bluebell Wood: Water & Farewell Gardens - Sheffield

      Return to map

With a new hospice being built for the children and families near Rotherham, it was only to be expected that Greenfingesr would be there to provide a wonderful garden in keeping with the new facility

Taking its name from the nearby wood, building this new hospice did prove a bit of a challenge.  With significant drainage problems affecting more than just the garden, work on the garden dragged out over a number of months.

Not to be daunted by this though, the resulting gardens are spectacular.  Making use of the views in particular, the garden incorporates a series of special areas, with a central water feature providing the focal point in the hub of the garden which has a 'town square' feel.

Active children are not forgotten with a wheelchair assault course providing great adventure for those seeking thrills.  A wheelchair roundabout has also been incorporated, with swings a basketball hoop and an play area with smaller children in mind.

The Farewell Garden is set to one side with its own secluded garden, including a miniature version of the main water feature.

With an additional network of paths and a raised pond (with added safety features) opportunities for quiet contemplation, taking in the wonderful views, will always be available.

The garden is yet to be opened officially, though Greenfingesr work finished there in March 2009.
