Brian House: Play & Craft Gardens - Blackpool

      Return to map

A new wing to the Trinity Hospice in the Fylde, called Brian House, had been developed for children. A garden was needed to give activities for some children but also provide some quiet areas for those who needed it.

With only a small area to work with, creativity was an important factor in this garden and Gemma Newman, the landscape architect who designed the site, certainly brought some youthful and novel ideas to the garden.  A willow tunnel and a chamomile lawn added interest, sitting alongside important features such as the tranquil area, where a family can sit in peace, and both open play area and a covered craft space.

A tree-seat around the tree kept the warm character of the garden and paved areas mixed together with a safety play surface, meant that everyone could find a place to feel at home.

Barton Grange Landscapes built the garden. Rolawn generously supplied the turf and Marshalls the paving which meant our money went even further.

The new hospice including the garden was opened by the Duke of Gloucester in September 2005.
