Rainbows Hospice: Wind Garden - Loughborough

      Return to map

As a newly built hospice, Rainbows at Loughborough required a full range of gardens to provide all the elements that Greenfingers' experience has shown are needed at a children's hospice.

Designed and built by Julian Cotterell’s company Design and Landscapes, the gardens are packed with interest. with the main theme being taken as the wind.

In additional to the secluded and tranquil areas so vital to the well being of the children and families, friends and staff at a hospice, Julian has introduced a wealth of carefully thought through activities.

Featuring raised beds for wheelchair gardening, a remote controlled car track and outdoor chess, the garden caters for all, providing great emphasis on colour, sound and movement, through a great many flags and windsocks. Starry lights embedded in the overhaed woodwork have given a further sense of excitement at night-time.

The overall effect has been one which stimulates the children who use it - providing both play areas and calming sensory areas, which can be enjoyed in all weathers and seasons.
